Harsil is enclosed by snow-capped mountains, coniferous forests, and dense deodar. Harsil is resided by ethnic group of the Bhutiyas and a small number of Jades. Harsil is established on the way of Gangotri temple at a span of 24 km from Gangotri. The idol of Goddess Ganga is brought down from Gangotri in wintertimes to Harsil’sneighbourhood village Mukhba.
Gangotri is a holy Hindu temple which is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state. It is one of the four temple in the Chota Char Dhamcircuit. Gangotri temple is open for six months in a year and shut for the remaining six months due to climatic restrictions and heavy snowfall. Gangotri has several places to see near it. The idol of Goddess Ganga moved from Gangotri to Mukhba village during winters.
