Joshimath is a petite city which is also recognised as Jyotirmath. Joshimath is settled in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. It is established at a height of 1875 m above sea level. Joshimath is also a gateway to numerous Himalayan peaks trekking expedition, ascending expedition and also pilgrimscentres like Badrinath Temple. Joshimath is home to the four cardinal pithas which is established by AdiShankara. Joshimath is a winter seat of Lord Badri because in winter when the Chota Char Dham of Uttarakhand is closed due to weather condition. The main idol of Lord Badri moved from BadrinathDham to Vasudeva temple at Joshimath.
Malari village is located near Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. Malari is a small village close to the Indo- Tibetan border. It is located in Dhauli Ganga valley at an altitude of 3048 m. Residents of Malari village goes to the lower part of Himalayas during wintertimes due to heavy snowfall. Malari village is a charming old village in the Himalayas with very unusual architecture and slate roofing of houses.
